With the year coming to a close and the Holidays approaching, you may be looking for unique ways to give back to the community during the season of giving. We may be biased, but we are pretty big fans of the work we do, and always can use support as we serve children and families in our communities. Here are some particular ways that you can help us fulfill our mission during the Holiday Season!
Volunteer with or Donate to Sammy’s Window
FosterAdopt Connect has Sammy’s Window, our clothing closet/food pantry at each of our locations. Sammy’s Window helps foster/adoptive families with tangible needs that they have while caring for the children in their homes.
We are currently in need of non-perishable food items and hygiene products at all of our locations. To inquire about volunteer opportunities or to make a donation, visit the Sammy’s Window page for the contact info of the branch nearest you.
Christmas Shop at Connect Café
This year, we launched a new program/social enterprise called Connect Café. Beyond being a skill-building program for youth aging out of foster care, it’s a fully functioning coffee shop/café that serves delicious drinks and food every weekday. We also sell goods from local businesses and artisans in the Kansas City area: everything from chocolates to canned goods, homemade incense, candles, and more. Buying gifts here kills three birds with one stone: finding a unique gift for someone you love, supporting amazing local makers, and helping us fund our programs!
Donate Hot Meals to YouthConnect Center
Our YouthConnect Center in Springfield, MO serves hot meals daily to teens aged 13-17 who are experiencing housing insecurity. We identified this as a specific age range in which few services existed in the area, and we love getting to spend time with these kids and help them along their journeys. We are always looking for donations of meals to serve as dinners to these kids. If interested in learning more, please contact Erin Washburn or visit the program page.
